Jojo à Vancouver

What a great way to spend a Sunday. With horses. And little Jo just loooves horses, always has. And so does big Jo. So there. It's really a great thing to have young French women and men work for the school -- First of all, they are excellent babysitters (several to choose from, all of them know little Jo, and they risk a lot more than just the babysitting job with me, should anything go wrong). And then, they are, just like the two Jos, into exploring Vancouver and BC in general. And they come from a similar background. So sharing tips on where to go and what to do is just great. Even if sometimes, I feel slightly old chatting along with them -- but they are great and don't seem to mind. So thanks to two girls from school, I knew the Cloverdale Rodeo was on this weekend. We had other plans for yesterday (went to a Capoeira show at the Children's festival, which was great, too), and today we went, I decided we might in the morning, and off we went after service. L'école, ou plutôt la maitresse de petit Jo, a organisé un thé pour les mamans. Ils nous avaient préparés des gateaux, chaque enfant en avait fait deux ou trois pour sa maman. Il y avait du café et du thé. Tout cela à une heure de l'après-midi, ce qui a fait que un quart des mamans n'a pas pu venir. Les enfants (ou plutôt les amis comme on dit ici), nous ont chanté trois chansons, récité un poème. J'ai été très émue, comme toujours à ces occasions-là. Petit Jo a chanté plus fort que tous les autres ensem ble, pas sûre que cela soit une bonne chose. Au moins il chante juste, et se rappele à peu près des mots. Bonne fête à toutes les mamans!!!!!

Inzwischen arbeite ich wieder, was mir wirklich sehr viel Spass macht. Das liegt einerseits natuerlich daran, dass mir mein Job wirklich gut gefaellt. DAss das Team super ist, dass die Aufgaben immer sehr abwechslungsreich und spannend sind. Und andererseits einfach daran, dass es endlich mal wieder was ist, was ich echt gut kann. Womit ich mich auskenne, was so ist wie vor dem Umzug. Denn davon gab's natuerlich in letzter Zeit nicht viel. Anders gesagt: ich steck voll im Kulturschock. Kulturschock hat ja verschiedene Aspekte: dass man alles toll findet, dass man alles schlimm findet und frustriert ist, und dass man beginnt, die Dinge relativiert zu sehen. Ich bin definitiv nohc nicht im letztgenannten Stadium angelangt ;) DAfuer gehen die ersten beiden voll durcheinander. Klein Jo hat ein brandneues Fahrrad, das Freunde auf Craigslist fuer gratis fuer mich gefunden haben -- und ein anderer Bekannter hat es auf Vordermann gebracht. Oh did I say we have a French bakery in our building? It's really good, albeit a bit pricier than in Paris. On the other hand, everything here is more expensive than in Paris, with the exception maybe of household appliances and gas. -- Back to the bakery: what a funny surprise the first morning here, when we walked out onto the street in quest for food, and before even walking ten steps, walked in to be greeted with "Bonjour Madame", to which I replied, much to the baker's surprise with "Bonjour Monsieur". Oh, and he even has a play area for kids, and makes coffee, and has tables to sit down at. Speaking French, talking with a fellow immigrant, but one who's been in Canada for over twenty years, good bread, viennoiseries, and patisseries: not much could have been better on our first morning here. Little Jo loves to check in with the baker every morning -- and I must say I value both the products as well as the advice and the pleasantries we exchange. Gl...

Voici les Jos à Vancouver! Petit Jo attend le bus scolaire à deux minutes de chez nous. Le bus le prend vers 8h15 environ. Le soir il reste à la garderie de 15h à 18h, et je le cherche là-bas, en voiture. Dans l'image on voit aussi le "sac à lunch" que grand Jo doit remplir chaque matin pour que petit Jo ne meure pas de faim pendant la journée. Et oui, c'est l'école francophone, mais c'est l'Amérique du Nord quand même. Voilà, juste un petit coucou pour vous dire qu'on va bien. Nous n'avons pas encore internet ni téléphone à la maison -- mais sommes joignable par téléphone cellulaire Canadien et par email que je check une fois par jour. Si je n'ai pas répondu à des emails: je suis désolée, j'y parviendrai. Pour l'instant j'ai un emploi de temps extremement chargé avec beaucoup de choses à mettre en place. Voici le premier jour que les déménageurs travaillent dans notre ancien "chez nous" à Paris: Ils sont trois, et ils y vont de façon efficace. Il y en a un qui casse un truc-- le grand gros placard PAX de chez IKEA -- et il en est vraiment désolé. Heureusement que j'ai le reflexe de prendre une photo direct, car j'apprend plus tard de ma "coordinatrice de déménagement" que c'est exactement ce qu'il faut faire. Pendant que les trois hommes travaillent, je me sens un peu inutile en les regardant. Donc j'essaie de me rendre utile, par exemple en enlevant qqs oeuvres d'art du mur, généralement accrochés à la patte à fix. Ca va, je me suis pas encore fait mal. Mais quand j'essaie de dévisser une lampe je fais un faut mouvement, et j'ai direct tellement mal au dos, enfin plutôt à l'épaule, que je décide de strictement plus rien toucher. Grâce à une copine, deux heures plus tard, j'ai l'adresse d'un super salon de massage Chin...

Wie verrueckt gerade alles wird, koennt Ihr vielleicht daran merken, dass ich an meinem letzten Arbeitstag, am Freitag den 19. Maerz, es nciht geschafft habe, rechtzeitig vor 17h meinen Rechner, und Firmenausweis, und Telefon und SIM Karte abzugeben. So dass ich jetzt die Sekretaerin einspannen muss, die mir netterweise angeboten hat, am Montag drauf alles fuer mich abzugeben. Dafuer freue ich mich gerade wie Oskar darueber, dass ich jetzt doch Schlittschuh Unterricht unter der Woche tagsueber gefunden habe. Erst hatte ich naemlich bloss welchen fuer sonntags mittag gefunden, und das fand ich etwas doof. Jetzt muss ich nur noch einen Chor fuer mich finden, und Judo fuer J, und dann sind wir beide erstmal mit unseren alleine-Aktivitaeten versorgt. Ach ja, da war ja noch die Arbeit: bis jetzt steht immer noch nicht 100% dass ich bei meiner Firma bleiben kann, aber es sieht immer wahrscheinlicher aus. Bloss dass ich mir von "wahrscheinlicher" halt auch nix kaufen kann. A...
